Five Key points to consider before buying a printer:

Here is a small secret which is very difficult to find it on the internet or from any one else. Because there are hundreds of Printer reviews on you-tube but no one says it clear that if a printer can really print on all the paper. And here is the answer,

There is no one printer which can print on all the paper

When you want to buy a printer, firstly you have to decide on the product you have to sell. For example, if you want to sell Laptop stickers, you will need a eco-solvent printer which is the only printer which can be used to print on vinyl paper. Or if you want to sell greeting cards with your art on it, then you would need a good digital/laser printer which can print on card stocks. If you want to sell your arts on canvas, then there is a different printer for it. So the important point here is to understand your product and the paper you want to print on.

I still went ahead and bought some copier paper which was 100GSM (GSM is “Gram per square meter” which is used to measure the paper weight) and tried to print on it using my ink tank printer. It printed out beautifully with my designs on it but I can see the design from the back side of the paper. This is because the ink tank printer uses Inks to print unlike laser print which is printed using toner. A toner uses powder and heat to print and because of this, the print doesn’t leak behind the paper. Therefore one cannot print on copier paper using an ink tank printer. It can be printed using a laser printer so that it doesn’t leak.

I also came to know that Canon has more models of Laser or digital printers compared to Epson. So when you are researching printers, try to have an open mind to compare all the models between different brands.

Five Key points to consider before buying a printer:

  • Check the maximum GSM paper that Printer can print on. This is useful to decide and buy papers accordingly
  • Check if the printer can print both the sides (Duplex Printing). This can avoid wasting your time by sitting near printer and turn the paper and feed it inside the printer to print on the other side
  • Check the maximum size the printer can print
  • Also check the Ink cost for your printer. Ink tank printer’s ink cost less compared to inkjet printers. This is because Ink tanks are refillable and inkjet printers are not.
  • Check the maintenance cost of the printer as there are few printers which will use a lot of inks to cleans if they are not printed regularly. For example, Epson photo printers has to be printed at least once in three days or it will get clogged
